Here we go again with WMP11 being slow. I've noticed that WMP11 works fine with videos and with normal CPU usage, but when I play music WMP11 is very slow. WMP11 isn't slow like this on XP. Would it have to do with my Audigy soundcard drivers, video card drivers, or what? My visualizations are almost like watching a slideshow, where on XP, they are not slow at all. Any ideas?

WMP 11 - Slow
I would suspect its likely the driver for your video card thats causing it. Since most drivers are still in beta, they aren't likely to be optimized for performance until Vista RTMs. I would file a report on the issue and contact the manufacturer about the issue. BTW, does this affect all visualizations? Have you checked the Processes tab under Taskmanager to see if there are any processes that might be interfering with the performance of the machine. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "Travis King" wrote in message

Yes, it affects all visualizations, including ones that do not rely on the video card. DWM sometimes eats more of my CPU when WMP11 is running, however, right now it's only eating 3%, but I've seen it at 25% when WMP11 is running before. (This seems to happen when WMP11 is the active window.) mfpmp.exe eats 11% (DRM I think - cough, cough). I've seen mfpmp.exe at 20% before. WMP is eating 7% with the bars & waves - bars visualization running. Total CPU usage right now is around 26% (with just bars & waves viz) but I have seen it over half with WMP11. Aero Glass also gets pretty choppy when I'm playing music with WMP11. Heard of Blazing Colors? That's one of my favorite visualizations, and it lags quite a bit in Vista, (almost like a slideshow) but it works great in XP. (Even full screen @ 1600x1200) These visualizations rely on the CPU, not the GPU. Now even ones that do rely on the video card such as the WMP10 energy bliss visualization are also slow. On XP with WMP11 and bars & waves running, total CPU usage for the entire system is only between 2% and 7%.
My processor is an AMD Sempron 64 2800+ @ 1.6GHz My video card is an Ati Radeon X1600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR2 RAM and running at AGP 8x I have 1.5GB of RAM with around a gig free

Also, in WMP11, when I'm using a visualization that uses the video card, and I switch to a visualization that doesn't use the video card, the visualization will freeze and stop and will not change until I restart WMP11. "Travis King" wrote in message

I can honestly say that there are problems with atleast 4 resident files within the ati driver set. I reported this days after the original release, its been over a month, keep checking ati's site every day, but no new driver.. <sigh>

What's weird though is I can play music through WinAMP or iTunes and my CPU doesn't suffer from using those... Aero Glass also doesn't slow down. "dfeifer" wrote in message

I played some wave files with WMP11 tonight and the visualizations are faster, although still not very fast in comparison to XP. Funny thing is when you play wave files, mfpmp.exe does not show up in the task manager... "Travis King" wrote in message
